Until the night before Christmas, when all through the house is heard the furious clicking of knitting needles, a bit of hair tearing, and the angry grunts of somebody getting all stabby with pointy sticks. It’s always a fun day when Knitty releases a new issue, and this time was no different. With quite a few “piquant”-rated patterns, the Winter 2015 issue has a lot in store for the so-called seasoned knitter, and lots of these are two- or three-skein accessory projects. Nice for the knitter short on time and/or needing some budget relief from splurge projects. With that idea in mind, here are a handful of patterns (most crochet, but one knit) to add some color and fiber to your Thanksgiving spread: Continue reading “Three for Free Friday: Thanksgiving Decor”
Who doesn’t love a cabled slouchy beanie? Father Cables is a hot pattern on Ravelry this week, no doubt due to its stunning cable pattern and the fact that it’s been generously published as a free pattern by YOTH Yarns. The pattern calls for a softly plied, worsted weight Rambouillet wool yarn, which comes from a breed of sheep known for its soft, fine fiber, much like its close relative the Merino sheep. Fantastic yarns for this pattern would be two skeins of Madelinetosh Tosh Vintage, Malabrigo Rios, or Juniper Moon Farms Moonshine. Continue reading “Three for Free Friday: Knit Cables”
