Some of us want to have a little touch of yarn in our lives every day, and family gatherings provide a perfect occasion to spread yarny cheer and goodness to a larger circle of people. With that idea in mind, here are a handful of patterns (most crochet, but one knit) to add some color and fiber to your Thanksgiving spread:
Pictured, from top left, clockwise:
Fall Leaves (free pattern; crochet) would be rendered beautifully in a worsted weight cotton in fall colors. Rowan Softknit Cotton would be an excellent choice, with its range of autumn colors and superb stitch definition.
Pine Cone Collection (paid pattern; crochet) contains patterns for six different designs of pine cones.
Squeeze n’ Sniff Pumpkin Pie (free pattern; crochet) is an adorable amigurumi-style toy or decoration that’s filled with a pumpkin-spice-scented sachet. Fun for little and big kids alike!
The Acorn Ornament (free pattern; knit) calls for scraps of aran or worsted weight yarn knit at a very tight gauge on small needles, to ensure the stuffing doesn’t poke through the fabric.
Decoration idea: Make a bowl full of acorns, pine cones, and leaves in festive colors for the table centerpiece. Cut lengths of ribbon and write each diner’s name on one to act as a table placemarker. Invite guests to each take home an item from the bowl to use as a holiday ornament (the ribbon can act as the hanger).
